Cinema Colombiano supports the National Strike
From The Netherlands, Cinema Colombiano shares the pain and the call for social justice that Colombian people raise today! We are supporting the demands to end the killing of protesters and violation of human rights by the Colombian police and armed forces.

On this website, you can sign a letter addressed to the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, and other diplomatic offices and institutions that can put pressure on the Colombian government. Also you can find some press and audiovisual materials with more information.

Since the 28th of April 2021 massive demonstrations have taken place on the Colombian streets. Although the country was going through the third peak of the pandemic, the rejection of the neo-liberal policies by the political party Centro Democrático’s was so strong that the urgency of covid measures moved to the background.

The government has responded to the strike with the militarization of the cities and an indiscriminate deadly force by the police, which have been joined by paramilitary forces. More than forty have been killed and more than a thousand disappeared. Thousands of people have been abused. People have been raped and lost their eyes.

The Centro Democrático, led by president Iván Duque and with a majority in congress, is a fascist force dating from 2002 when Alvaro Uribe first took term. It is this former president who rules, although he doesn’t have a political position anymore. He recently resigned from serving as a congressman so he couldn't be judged through international laws. Instead, he was judged by the regular Colombian justice department in a lawsuit that linked him with paramilitary groups. For this reason, a new generation of Colombians yells in the streets: “Uribe, paraco, el pueblo está berraco.” (Uribe, paramilitary, the people are pissed off)
